Time-adjustable change of rotation direction
The initial idea was a rotating terrace with a diameter of 5 metres for an alpine hut in Hinterthal. During the initial planning stage, the diameter was increased to 8 metres. The aim was to enable people to follow the sun from their deckchairs. The rotation speed was set at approximately one revolution every half hour. Once all the challenges relating to access to the alpine hut and path usage had been resolved, the foundations had to be planned and laid.

Our first installation job was at the end of June, when we installed rolled external angles. These serve to finish off the inside of our terrace and also allow the granite flooring to be laid up to these angles on the outside.
Over the summer, the substructures (wheel supports) and terrace elements were manufactured – four segmented arch elements (weight per piece: 515 kg) and one element (weight: 390 kg) in the centre.
In mid-September, the parts were galvanised and nothing stood in the way of the next stage of assembly.
At the end of September, the slewing ring in the centre and the 23 support wheels were installed using drilling templates.

On 3 October, Etronet began installing the remaining components of the terrace and carrying out
the electrical installations. This also included commissioning the relevant technical systems.

And last but not least, the rubber mats were installed to cover the gap between the rotating terrace and the granite floor.
